It’s touching to see how they are bonding over the raw question: “Am I still valuable without this role?”
One mom, after decades of pouring her heart into her (4!) kids, wonders: “Am I still important if I’m not needed as care-giver anymore?”
A retired nurse is asking: “Do I matter when I am not saving lives every day?”
I get it. After selling my 21-year biz, I kept asking: “Who am I without being a leader of a global Kids Yoga company?”
These deep, poignant questions touch your Self worth and it’s so very normal.
Especially because, our culture wired us this way from childhood on.
As kids we got gold stars for straight A’s!
Busy Mom’s get complimented for juggling it all.
And career women, they get validated for hustling and earning.
We’ve learned to believe that our value and worth live in what we do: output, impact, and being needed. Not for who we are.
So yes, when you outgrow an identity, it feels like your relevance is dissolving too.
But here’s the truth I want you to get in your bones: Nothing inside of you is diminishing. Your role is ending … not your essence, your goodness, nor your wisdom.
If you’re asking, “Am I still important without this?”
I want to remind you: Yes, you are!
You are in a sacred transition, outgrowing an old identity … but not your worth.
Everything you have built—your skills, your love, your leadership—gets to come with you.
Even if your next chapter’s still a mystery.
Imagine this …
- You wake up knowing that you have value—even as you step away from old roles and into the unknown.
- You move through your days calm and steady—despite still discovering what’s next.
- Your people see you. And, you don’t perform or people-please in order to feel loved.
- Your energy goes towards rest, creative projects, or meaningful work that feels aligned and purposeful … and you genuinely don’t care if it fits any mold.
This is exactly the work we do in The Outgrown Identity Club.
