Let’s Color Outside the Lines

I’m JodiGolda

Most of us did—innocently by our parents, peers, or society btw—or at least, some version of it.

And, most of us have internalized these messages, which is why in today’s culture, perfectionism is rampant.

I am seeing it in my clients. And, guess what!? I am seeing it in myself.

One client has been resistant to pull the trigger on teaching her first Yoga class—until she feels like she is “perfectly ready.”

Another client has been struggling to commit to her next biz offering—afraid she won’t execute it “perfectly right.”

And, me! Well, I am feeling paralyzed with wanting to make videos for you—but my need to “do it perfectly” is standing it my way!

Can you relate?

Is perfectionism running you? Or more frankly, is perfectionism stopping you?

Like you know you are meant to do something, and you really want to do that something—but you are stuck in fear about getting it wrong, looking bad, or needing to do it perfectly

And as a result, you’re not moving towards your dream goal—and, you’re staying stuck in your status quo.

Trust me, you are not alone. As I said, perfectionism and the need to look good, do it right, and not make any mistakes along the way is pervasive (and valued) in our Western capitalistic culture.

It looks like the need to appear and act perfectly.
It looks like the need to have business, marketing, and income flow perfectly.
It looks like the need to post pictures and videos on social media perfectly.
It looks like the need to parent, friend, and relate with others perfectly.

No mistakes. No mysteries. No messes.

But really, that’s impossible!

And it’s destructive.

Because when you pressure yourself to be perfect … you not only limit your authentic expression, inhibit your vulnerability, and stress yourself out—but worst of all you slow way down and stop yourself from accomplishing your goals.

The truth is …
To be human is to be messy.
To be human is to be mistaken.
To be human is to be imperfect.

It’s what makes us unique, real, and relatable.

Both my clients and myself have been struggling to move forward with our goals—let alone the mental anguish—all because of an internal pressure. AKA, a need to be perfect.

Good news! We are leading with love.

Which means … we are doing the deep inner work to unpack our learned messages of perfectionism. We are having self compassion. And, we are moving through the resistance slowly but surely, getting into action.

Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s flawed. Even if it’s imperfect.
